Oh, hello.  I didn’t see you there.  What am I doing, you ask?  Well it’s Science, isn’t it?

I am doing Science.  For scientific research.  Meaning I started with an idea or hypothesis, which is “What makes people click on and read one article over another?”  

My belief is that it is a simple matter of basic instinct, the things that drive us wild and elicit the sense of pleasure.  Because let’s face it, Sex is enjoyable, Drugs can be fun, and Rock and Roll, well music, in general, brings a sense of pleasure.

So, with all that in mind, I created a poll on Twitter asking that very question.  What makes you read an Article.  This is obviously for selfish reasons as I want everyone to read what I write as I believe it is super goodest writing.

Also, I made my assumption before asking the question as the whole idea of sex sells is proven we all know it works, the data backs it up.  Which is why I am very interested in the results of the Twitter Poll listed below.

It makes me wonder, are we lying to ourselves and picking the answer we wish were true or are we simply unaware of the true reasons we do anything?

Are we hypnotized by clever tag lines and sexy marketing?  Do you even realize that you are making the choice to click on this article because of the picture of to hotties with bodies about to throw down? Or a tag line that has taboos in it.  Or are you believing that you really need information on How to have better Sex?

I think you know the answer but I would love to hear your thoughts.

  1. Information for me, mainly humour I guess, or maybe something slightly grabbing like 50 die in blaze or something funny like death, why I’m more human than you realise. Sex puts me off, yep, I’m definitely weird. Good article Matt.

  2. Okay…I have a lot to say on this subject. But I will try and keep it brief. I think you make some great points here, and yes, I agree with you that sex sells. But why does it sell? Is it the pleasure of sex or seeing sexy things or is it that we are all hoping/looking for that connection with someone? Because in the end, is that what sex is? A greater, more deeper connection with someone? I will admit, I will click on a link that has some sexy stuff in it, because, well, I like that stuff. I’m not talking porn or anything, but I like to see sexy bodies just as much as the next person. I think that is pretty healthy, actually…especially to admit it.
    Secondly, I think there are so many taboos against sex and that secretly people seek it out even more because of that. If we had better conversations about it, maybe (my hope!) would be that people wouldn’t be so secretive about it. We could talk about what we want and need and hope for in partners and what makes people tick. Because, in the end, it is about connection. Sex is just one form of connection for people, and it is a pretty powerful one because of what (a. the end result could be a child, b. the end result could be awesome pleasure c. someone could feel hurt/used/etc…we won’t get into the darker side of sex here, but I hope you see where I am going with that. d. obvious, but important one, helps bring you and your partner closer together. There are lots more there, but like I said, I will try and keep it brief. HAHA)
    Lastly, YESSSSSS people need better information about sex. How to have better sex would make a lot of people happier. Seriously, I think people either give up on it or seek out stupid stuff like porn instead. I think there are so many people stifled for religious reasons and pressures from traditions in families to not talk or have sex. WHICH IS COMPLETELY crazy to me (they are not crazy, I’m saying the taboo to even discuss it is. IT IS A HUUUUUUUUUUGE part of life. And we should talk about it.) . I’m not talking about having orgies here, I’m talking about a greater connection with the person you are with. So yeah, I think while sex sells…the end reason isn’t just about pleasure, it is about a connection someone is seeking. It is the same reason why people have affairs—it never really is about the actual sex, it is about the connection they are seeking. And since sex is like the most intimate form of that physically, that is why is drives us.
    Sorry for the rambling. I had a bigger cup of coffee than usual this morning so I’m like a bunny on the computer. Or maybe a hyped-up floppy pufferfish. Also, I’m pretty blunt person, so this is one subject that I really get into.

    1. Wow that is a ton of great stuff. Seriously you hit the nail on the head with connection and the taboo of it all. It’s why I wonder in an anonymous poll why so many abjectly deny they read for the picture or what ever? I think it’s the same thing I never said reading an article about sex or with sexy pictures was wrong I just asked what makes people read. I guess I should have asked what gets u to click a link. Oh well Haha. I’m blown away by your response thank you for drinking coffee

      1. You should see me on two cup days (rare)…but I could probably run marathons those days. I’m naturally energetic, but I love a cup of coffee! Okay. I have to hop off here now…get it, hop!!!! 😂😁🐡🐇

  3. Oh Matt you naughty hahahah😂 well I click all your posts so I certainly didn’t click because of the sex subject even though it’s a very important subject especially if it will have some educational approach haha
    Well what makes me read the post is a subject that really touch my heart and mind mostly what is related to psychology and human behavior and I prefer funny and real posts coming from own experiences…also paranormal and angels stuff interest me a lot!

    I like passionate love, the moments that precede sex, the connection, the emotions, the eye contact… these are major to me!
